AP Art is for the highly
motivated student committed to the serious study of art. It involves
significantly more time than most high school art courses. The course is
taught, treated, and graded as though it were an introductory college-level
class. In May, students will be expected to submit an extensive portfolio
divided into three sections; Quality,
Breadth, and Depth
. These are explained in detail below. Students must also
maintain a sketchbook throughout the year documenting their ideas and artistic
thought process.

This course will introduce you to a wide range of media, techniques, and processes used to create art, while also exploring a variety of themes in art. You will discuss, read, and write about art from various cultures and time periods in order to learn about why people make art. The skills learned in this class will strengthen your ability as a visual communicator and help you to build your portfolio.
